Eurostar Trip

On Saturday 7th Feb I took my first ever trip on Eurostar from Paris to London, it was great I really enjoyed it. The return trip on 11th Feb was just as good, and the help I got from 3 young men on the Paris metro with my bags renewed my faith in human nature. This was one of my 101 things so thats another tick on my list.

How big the World

I found this map program and decided to use it to show places I have visited, it has made me realise how big the world is and how little of it I have seen, maybe one day I will do a little travelling.

1st February, Day one of 1001 Day challenge!!

So today I start my 101 things in 1001 day challenge, I hope I can do it, so lets see.
I have sorted out my packets of seeds, and this pic shows the first lot to be planted, I am going to pot them in compost over the next few weeks, to hopefully give me a continuous crop later on in the year.

Melting Moments

This is one of the recipes I will include in my recipe book for Sarah & anyone else who wants it.
I made a batch of these today and Kerry loved them, they are so quick and simple.

Ingredients:
65g (2.5oz) margarine
40g (1.5oz) lard
75g (3oz) caster sugar
1/2 egg
5ml (1tsp) vanilla essence
150g (5oz) Self raising flour
rolled oats, dessicated coconut, glacé cherries.
Method:
1. Heat oven to 180*C, 350*F, gas mark 4.
Grease 2 baking trays.
2. Cream together margarine, sugar & lard. Beat in egg and vanilla essence.
3. Stir in flour and mix well.
4. Roll walnut size pieces of mixture into balls, toss in oats or coconut.
5. Place on baking trays, flatten slightly and place a small piece of cherry on each biscuit.
Bake 10 - 15 mins
This will make about 30 - 40 biscuits.
(I made 32 today).
Dont worry if you dont have everthing you need you can compromise slightly, its good to experiment, today I didnt have lard or egg, so I made up the weight of marg to include weight of lard, and used a couple of drops of milk instead of egg. I also mixed oats into the mixture rather than rolling the biscuits in them, and finally I had no cherries so went without!! Biscuits may not of been true melting moments but they were lovely!! Ask Kerry cos they are all gone!!

Today was a miserable grey day, and I was feeling pretty tired with my C.F.S., Kerry was busy outside, late afternoon I noticed the sun had come out, Kerry came in and said come and look, and there was a beautiful rainbow over the village, it made me smile.

Ice

Pictures of ice from the water trough out side the front of our house. The small pieces are from the goats water bucket, the large piece is from the stone trough. The largest piece measures 4.5 inches thick.

Well we have been pretty much the same as the rest of northern Europe this last few days, and have been living in below freezing conditions, trying to keep the house warm has become a big effort and feeding the wood burner is like trying to keep up with a starving monster!!
